This site is for the many Parts bands and melody flute bands that once graced, or are still parading the streets of Britain and Ireland today. Melody flute bands derived from the ranks of the British army intio 'civy' street in the early 1800s by the start ot the 20th century many of these bands evolved into part flute bands. In Northern Ireland almost every town and village had a band, sometimes more than one

and, Londonderry ' possibly the oldest band in the world' 1835, still handing
down members through the generations and going strong.
